Sandstone Texture and Color

After last week’s post involving long-exposure photographs of water in Wyoming’s mountains, I decided to switch back this week to another few of my favorite sandstone photos from Utah.  In one print, I was interested in the weathering of the rock face and the texture of the cracks in the rock.  I desaturated most the color in the photo to focus the viewer’s eye on the textures.  The other scene caught my eye because it is possible to see through two arches at once just up the trail from Pine Tree Arch.  I shot the second photo around sunrise, so the sandstone looked like it was glowing red with heat, which contrasts well with the blue sky.
