Morning Dunes

I drove out to southern New Mexico last weekend to spend some time at White Sands National Monument.  I walked around before and after sunset and got up before sunrise to take photos, but I think some of the most interesting panoramas at the dunes capture the large expanse of blue sky and white dunes extending as far as the eye can see.  A pink sunset is nice to look at, but I think it can take away from the real beauty of the dunes.  I took this panorama while hiking out to Alkali Flats.  I like the way the patterns in the sand funnel the viewer in towards the central ridge.

JEEZE. Why can’t we just have a pink sunset, dammit?
