Dry and Wet in Nepal
Earlier this summer, I spent about 6 weeks coring lakes in the hills and mountains of central and western Nepal for my PhD program. On the way from the capital to the midwestern region, we passed through the Terai, a hot lowland area to the south of the Himalaya near the Indian border. I photographed a waterfall in a side canyon off the highway near Kathmandu that I thought contrasted nicely with a panorama of the hot, dry lowland forest. The quality of light even seemed to be different in the Terai, where the oppressive air reflected a yellow light onto the landscape. Even the sky never appeared fully blue due to the haze.
