Winter Light at Twin Harbors State Park

In January, I took a weekend trip to Twin Harbors State Park. Absolutely beautiful, empty salt flats and coast line.

Snoqualmie Falls in Black and White

Shooting a few long-exposure photographs of Snoqualmie Falls has been on my bucket list, so I decided to check the location off my list last weekend- rainy/cloudy conditions were in the weather forecast, but the sun started poking through the clouds as I got there. Winter sun is usually a relief in the Pacific Northwest, but not for long-exposure photography.

Cloud over Stuart Range from Navaho Peak

Earlier this summer, I hiked up to Navaho Pass and Peak. From the peak, the view of the clouds spilling over the Cascades onto the Stuart Range was fantastic. More panoramas and single frame photographs soon.

Seattle Skyline Bulb Exposure, Part 3

After spending a few minutes walking around scoping out Joe Block Park, I decided to try to use some of the dock/pylons to frame the Space Needle and Seattle skyline (first photograph). Although I liked the idea, I found that a later composition was more successful (second photograph).

Monsoon Clouds 2017, NM

Last July, I had the pleasure of seeing this spectacular thunderstorm roll over the Sandia Mountains  while I was back in New Mexico for a conference. I pulled off NM SR556 to shoot a few single frame photographs and panoramas of the passing rainstorm as it dumped precipitation on Placitas.

Westfjords Beach, Iceland

The Garðar BA 64, a steel fishing vessel that was retired in the 1980’s, was run aground in Skápadalur Valley in the Westfjords, where it sits rusting on the beach as clouds and storms roll in off the Atlantic and Arctic. I wish I would have stopped here for longer to photograph the century-old vessel- a great example of how time, wind, and water slowly eat away at the human creation.

Winter Clouds over Dos Cabezas

I left Tucson for Albuquerque just a few hours ahead of the gathering December snow storm. A wall of white clouds over the salt flats just south of Wilcox kept catching my eye, and I finally had to pull over to photograph the low fog hugging Dos Cabezas peaks at Exit 352.
